Don't pay too much for a cut-in!
'Shop' around to find the best hair stylist

We've had a warning that many hair stylists are taking advantage of hair wearers by charging excessive rates for cutting in partial and full cap systems. One customer said he was quoted a staggering £160 just to cut in his partial system. For a trained stylist that is only a 40 minute job at the most.

men's hair system - www.bald2hair.com At the end of the day what is a hair system? It's hair replacement but should cutting it in be so expensive? No it shouldn't. Of course you're going to pay a bit more than a normal haircut, as the stylist has to cut the system hair to blend in with the client's natural growing hair.

For someone not involved in hairdressing this would seem a very difficult task - although some clients do cut their systems in themselves using scissors or products such as Robocut, which uses a vacumm system to cut hair. However, this method is often used when the system has already been cut-in and you're trimming hair around the sides and back.men's hair system - www.bald2hair.com A vacuum product can be used to cut in a partial (never a full cap), but it's always better to seek out a professional hair stylist.

Partial and full cap systems will usually be shipped to you with a hair length of six inches - unless you have specifically asked for a longer or shorter length.

We strongly advise against you cutting it yourself. If you make a mistake and chop too much off, you're stuck with it like that. Obviously unlike living growing hair, it won't grow back! Other hair system companies will suggest that they cut the hair in with you absent. That's like cutting hair with a blind-fold on and is not recommended. Even by using photographs of your head, you're unlikely to get a right cut.

You're best off finding a local barber or hairdresser who will do the job for you. Choosing a small corner shop barber may be preferential. Tell them you have a hair system you want them to cut in and they may arrange an appointment outside normal opening hours.

Frequently asked questions

  • What sort of hairstyle can I have?

Basically, any hairstyle a man with his natural head of hair can have, a hair wearer can also have.
Essentially there is no real difference as the freestyle system hair moves, can be combed and cut like a normal head of hair. But here are some things you need to consider:

  • Partial Systems

You can achieve really short haircuts with a partial system, as long as you're only buzz-cutting the sides and back.

  • Full Cap Systems

You are restricted how short you can go with a full cap. Never attempt to buzz-cut the sides and back and the results may look unnatural. That said, you can go as low as half an inch, as long as your density is average.

  • How to pick the right hairstyle

Obviously the younger you are (see the picture above), the thicker and more funky hairstyles will suit you. If you're in your 40s, you may opt for a more age-appropriate hairstyle.
